This blog post will be all about how to maintain a strong immune system this fall + winter season. As the temps begin to drop in Gainesville, a cough and a runny nose seem to be more common. Now, with COVID-19 it is even more important to make sure your health is being taken care of properly. Here are some tips to make sure your immune system stays strong this season!
Vitamins
This seems like common sense but most people don't get the recommended amounts of each vitamin daily. The best vitamins to boost your immune system are the A-B-C-D-E's. Vitamin C is the most important and supplements such as Emergen-C can help make sure you get enough of it each day. Other ways to get in your vitamins is through foods such as Oranges, Grapefruits, Strawberries and Spinach.
Reduce Alcohol Intake
There is a lot of research that goes to show heavy consumption of alcohol can lead to a weakened immune system. As college students, this one can be hard however when you are sick it is important to limit the amount of alcohol consumed so your immune system can fight off the illness.
Herbs and Supplements
Some good herbs and supplements that can boost your immune system include:
Zinc, Elderberry, Echinacea, and Andrographis.
Exercise
Having a routine work-out schedule has been proven to boost the immune system. When exercising, your white blood cells are moved around and they can protect your body against infection. When you are ill it is important to listen to your body and take rest days when needed.
Sleep
Last but not least it is so important that you get the proper amount of sleep each night. Lack of sleep can lead to the triggering of your inflammatory immune system and the T blood cells become less active. By sleeping 7-8 hours nightly, you get proper rest for your body to perform its usual functions.
