National Oatmeal Month

Quick cook, steel cut, rolled, old fashioned. Oatmeal is a popular breakfast food that can easily be transformed into a delicious, balanced meal with many health benefits. It's so popular that it's celebrated the whole month of January!

Benefits:

Oats can take on many varieties, but one thing they all have in common is that they are in their whole grain form. This causes oats to be packed with nutrients, and their high fiber content allows you to stay full for longer. They have been shown to lower bad cholesterol, control blood pressure, promote gut health, reduce chronic inflammation, and so much more!

Aside from nutrition, oats are used in some beauty products for their anti-itching and anti-inflammatory properties.

Oatmeal Recipe:

While oatmeal is a nutritious food with many health benefits, having it on its own may not be enough. Here is an easy way to spice up your oatmeal by adding more nutrients and variety!

You will need:

-1/2 cup oatmeal (I use quick cook)

-1 cup water or milk of your choice

-pinch of salt

-1 scoop protein powder (I recommend chocolate)

-2 tablespoons nut butter

-fruit of your choice (my personal favorite is banana)

-cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Add 1/2 cup oatmeal to a bowl

  2. Add 1 cup water/milk to bowl

  3. Add a pinch of salt to bowl

  4. Microwave for 1 minute 30 seconds

  5. Wait 1 minute for oats to cool slightly

  6. Add 1 scoop protein powder to oats and stir to mix it in evenly (add a little more liquid if you need to)

  7. Add fruit of your choice

  8. Drizzle nut butter on top

  9. Add cinnamon on top

This recipe is quick and easy while providing a balanced meal that will keep you full for hours! You can see why oatmeal is celebrated for a whole month!
