As we enter October, we thought it is important to raise awareness for Breast Cancer. Breast Cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in Women happening to 1 in every 8 women in their lifetime.

It is important that we understand the early signs and make sure to attend check-ups and get mammograms as your doctor instructs. There are a plethora of resources to make help prevent it as well as help you with any concerns you may have. The Susan G. Komen website (https://ww5.komen.org/) provides resources for you to donate to and support the cause as well as provides information and help for anyone.

One thing many people may not know is that functional medicine can actually be incorporated into prevention. In this article (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25974761/) published by the National Institutes for Health shows a significant decrease in the patient's risk for breast cancer after going through a program called the AVERTi-Healthy Breast Cancer Program (AHBP). There are also other articles that prove that maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine can lead to a significant reduction in the risk of breast cancer (https://rootfunctionalmedicine.com/functional-medicine-approach-to-breast-cancer-prevention/).

It is important to follow all doctors and trained medical professionals' recommendations when it comes to cancer as serious as this one. However, there are other functional medicine approaches that can help reduce risk. We hope everyone has a healthy October!!
