Berry Interesting!

There has been much debate over whether the term “superfood” is purely a marketing strategy or not, but there is no doubt that berries provide the body with powerful antioxidants, vitamins, nutrients, promote immune-system strength and regulate cholesterol. Truly, berries allow and maximize the body’s ability to perform all of the super processes of which it is capable!
While it may not no longer be the season for the most commonly known types of berries to be harvested, it is, however, the season where cold colds get spread in addition to the ongoing pandemic, so it is essential more than ever to continue incorporating them into meals. Many different types of berries are great for keeping the body able and ready to combat viruses and bacteria responsible for getting us sick. Surprisingly, some foods which are classified as “berries” might surprise you, but there is no surprise that each has its own unique benefits and strengths to keep us healthy and active!
Goji Berries- Goji berries Help promote eye health and strong immune functioning by providing a large source of Vitamin C, Iron, and Vitamin A. They are strong antioxidants that remove harmful toxins from the body, allowing it to be more efficient in carrying out bodily processes.
Pumpkin- In the fall season, pumpkin, a type of berry, offers a healthy source of protein and fiber. They support the body by helping to regulate blood pressure, cholesterol, and boost immune system functioning. Skip the sugar filled pumpkin spice lattes and instead try making a healthy pumpkin soup or enjoying some baked pumpkin seeds!
Watermelon: In its very name, this giant berry is composed majorly of water, which is essential to proper bodily functioning. Watermelon also is a great, natural, and fresh source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and fiber. Other interesting benefits from eating watermelon have shown to contribute to healthier skin and hair, reducing stomach inflammation and stabilizing digestion. Some of the plant compounds have even been associated with being anti-carcinogenic.
Overall, incorporating these fruits and many others in the berry family, has many long-term benefits aside from many of the short-term benefits listed. Maintaining a proper diet is essential for both the young and the old. We hope that you enjoyed learning about these fruits “berry” much!
